At St Mary's

24th April 2022

We were disturbed from our sleep this morning by tapping on the hull – the harbour master had come out in his boat and wanted payment for our stay on the buoy. He also provided useful information about other services (fuel, water, shops etc) that were available to us in Hugh Town itself.

After breakfast we inflated Terry and headed ashore to explore. The town was quiet but it was evident that preparations were being made for the World Championship Gig Rowing competition, due to take place over the bank holiday weekend when we would hopefully be well clear!

We decided to walk around St Mary’s and were immediately stuck by the beautiful Caribbean-like beaches, the wild and cultivated flowers and the remains of prehistoric settlements and burial mounds. We were blessed with the weather but St Mary’s is beautiful.
